On May 27–28, 2025, WIPO Director General Daren Tang visited Tashkent to support Uzbekistan’s transition toward an innovation-driven economy, with intellectual property (IP) playing a central role in its Vision 2030 strategy. During his visit, Daren Tang met with Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and other senior officials to discuss IP reform, innovation policy, and the development of creative industries.

WIPO pledged technical assistance to help modernize Uzbekistan’s national IP strategy, with a focus on emerging technologies such as generative AI. Support will also be directed toward strengthening local startup ecosystems and empowering entrepreneurs.

A key milestone in Uzbekistan’s reform efforts is the recent inclusion of IP rights in its Constitution—an important step in aligning national policy with international best practices. With a young population and growing numbers of IP-trained professionals, the country is well-positioned to become a regional center for innovation.

Daren Tang’s agenda included meetings with students, women entrepreneurs, and representatives from education, justice, agriculture, and technology sectors. His visit underscored WIPO’s commitment to supporting Uzbekistan in building a robust and inclusive IP framework that fosters sustainable development.
