Vietnam’s Market Surveillance Director General Meets with Japan Patent Office to Strengthen IP Cooperation

On October 24, 2024, Mr. Tran Huu Linh, Director General of the Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance (DMS), visited the Japan Patent Office (JPO) for discussions on enhancing intellectual property (IP) protection between Vietnam and Japan. Meeting with Mr. TAKIZAWA Go, Director-General of the JPO’s Policy Planning and Coordination Department, the two leaders reviewed recent developments in IP policies and the progress of joint initiatives under the 2021 Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC). Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fostering mutual understanding and reinforcing collaborative efforts.
During the visit, Mr. Linh and the DMS team also engaged with representatives from the International Intellectual Property Protection Forum (IIPPF), the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA), the Japan Customs Department, and the JPO. The meetings focused on improving procedures for combating counterfeit goods in Vietnam, with a particular emphasis on protecting Japanese brands.
The JPO reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance, and other related organizations to strengthen IP protections in Vietnam, ensuring robust safeguarding of brand owners' IP rights.
