On July 28, 2024, a significant agreement was reached between China and Italy regarding geographical indications (GIs). In a ceremony held in Beijing, Premier Li Qiang of China and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry of Italy. The MoU was signed by Shen Changyu, Commissioner of CNIPA, and Massimo Ambrosetti, the Italian Ambassador to China.

The newly signed MoU marks a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations in geographical indications. This agreement will facilitate the exchange of information on relevant laws and policies, promote the mutual recognition of products, and support various joint activities. By leveraging these efforts, China and Italy aim to strengthen their economic and trade relations, fostering a more integrated market for geographically indicated products.
