On the afternoon of July 27, 2021, Lt. Gen. TAN SOKVICHEA, Director of the Secretariat of the CCCC (Cambodia Counter Counterfeit Committee), and on behalf of Lt. Gen. MEACH SOPHANA, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior and Chairman of CCCC, cooperated with S&O Intellectual Property Limited (S&O IP – Cambodia) to organize a training webinar on “Identification of Genuine and Counterfeit Products”. The training was delivered via Zoom.

During the webinar, there were national and international speakers who contributed as representatives of companies participating in the event. They presented on behalf of popular brands such as: Lacoste, Levi's, P&G, Under Armour, Victorinox, Longchamp, Coty, and Superdry.

At this well-received webinar, Lt. Gen. TAN SOKVICHEA mentioned the fight against counterfeit products falls within a sensitive context across the world and in Cambodia. The counterfeit issue affects many sectors and causes significant loss and a decrease in benefits to Government institutions, legitimate private companies, and end-users; catalyzed by fraudulent scams. The forms of counterfeit goods are diverse, which can result in making it difficult for law enforcement to identify specific cases. Identification issues are also impacted by the prevalent use of advanced technology, increasing the challenges encountered in determining and classifying counterfeit products.

In the past, the CCCC has prevented and suppressed many cases involving counterfeit products, including consumer products, food products, equipment products and medicines, covering all forms of crime.

In his closing remarks, Lt. Gen. TAN SOKVICHEA praised and thanked S&O IP, and the other national and international speakers from companies cooperating with CCCC to launch this knowledge-sharing event. He also recognized and showed appreciation for all participants attending the training.

Lt. Gen. TAN SOKVICHEA expressed his hope all participants will positively apply the knowledge acquired from the webinar to their work in successfully fighting against counterfeit products. He reinforced that this mission requires all stakeholders to work diligently to stop counterfeits and to ensure the safety of the Cambodian people. Key areas of focus include counterfeits involving; medicine and related medical products, contaminated food containing chemicals, and piracy products.  At the same time, infringement of intellectual property such as groceries and fake consumables is an ongoing problem affecting the health and lives of the Cambodian people, and people in other countries worldwide.

In closing, Lt. Gen. TAN SOKVICHEAA highlighted the continuing presence of counterfeits requires effective control measures to assist reducing counterfeits and furthering economic development in Cambodia and globally.
